Palma Boat Show 2016  (28th April – 2nd May)

Palma Superyacht Show 2016 (28th April - 2nd May).

The five day combined Palma Boat Show and Palma Superyacht Show came to a close on Monday amidst wide recognition that the event had again been a great success. The joint event now in it's fourth year is very well established in the Nautical calendar. Organised jointly by the Minister for Employment and the Balearic Yacht Brokers Association (BYBA) the event is modestly larger than last year with some 220 exhibitors and 170 boats on display and with an estimated  35,000 visitors.

Arne Ploch of Camper and Nicholsons was a prime mover in setting up the Superyacht Show in Mallorca - initially at Port Adriana and for the last four years in the superb setting of historic Moll Vell in Palma. Arne says "The combined event is now very well established and attracts a considerable number of quality clients from across the world. The event is well timed at the beginning of the Mediterranean summer season with still time to charter or purchase for the upcoming season. The atmosphere at Palma is much more relaxed than at Monaco or at Cannes. For many visitors combine their visit to the show with a spring break taking advantage of the availability of a wide variety of excellent cuisine, historic attractions and leisure activities on the island. With 64 superyachts on display (47 sailing yachts and 17 motor yachts) the show represents the largest line up of sailing superyachts in the world. The on land  exhibition area and in water area has been increased over 2015 by a re-configuration of berths, the greater use of pontoon moorings and a further encroachment into the STP yacht maintenence zone. It is hoped to provide further such expansion for 2017 to accommodate more boats and exbitors at this oversubscribed event.

Linda Zibala of Princess Motor Yachts in Port Adriana confirmed that Princess were very well pleased with the quality of interest in their exhibits at Palma 2016 and hosted a good number of both known and new clients to the event. The new 30m Princess generated considerable interest.

Marivent Yachts displayed a range of Fjord and Prestige craft. Oliver Friols was pleased to confirm the sale of a Prestige 750 - a traditionsl style motor yacht - at the show. Oliver confirmed very considerable interest in the range of Fjord craft - attractive to residents and regular visitors who are seeking greater external entertainment space. Oliver was well pleased with the event.

Humphrey Carter Majorca Daily Bulletin.   30th April 2016
Palma Boat Show 30 page report in Saturday Bulletin 30/04

Twenty Percent surge in demand for moorings in the Balearics. A great deal of interest in moorings is being shown at the boat show.

Not only is the 33rd edition of the Palma Boat Show enjoying brisk business and a great deal of interest, so too are Balearic marinas and yacht clubs. For a number of years, the charter market in particular, was restricted by the controversial matriculation tax Spain charged. But since that was scrapped two years ago, the word has finally got around the global nautical grapevine that Spain, in particular the Balearics, is very much open for business and this year demand for moorings is far out stripping supply.

The warnings have been on the wall for the best part of a decade that more moorings were needed in the Balearics, due to the islands’ close proximity to one another, making the region an ideal cruising destination, not to mention the infrastructure, luxury hotels and restaurants, etc.

This year, according to Portbooker, which is based in the ParcBit technology park, demand for moorings is currently 20 per cent higher than this time last year and that figure is expected to increase further as the season gets under sail. As it stands, booking a berth for July and August is more or less impossible in the Balearics and that is leading to the lengthening of the nautical season in the Balearics, with people opting to book moorings in either June or September - good news for the local marine industry and all the related sectors.

So, not only are the hoteliers and resorts going to enjoy a longer season this year, so too is the nautical industry. Portbooker manages some 8,500 moorings around the world: 12 per cent of these are here in the Balearics and their main clients are foreign - from the United Kingdom, Italy, France and Germany, for example - although the domestic Spanish market has shown signs of picking up over the past 12 months, thus mirroring the recovery in the holiday market.

On average, moorings are hired for 6.7 days while the average length of the vessel, be it a motor boat or a sailing yacht, is 14.5 metres.

However, over the past few years, a significant number of moorings in the region’s main marinas have been extended in order to cater for the new breed of super yachts, and we have already seen some of the largest in the world cruise into Balearic waters this year.

PRESS RELEASE BY  www.boatshowpalma.com

Marc Fosh will delight visitors with his most creative Tapas

The gastronomic offering at the 33rd Palma Boat Show and the 4th Palma SuperYacht Show will also feature restaurants Mar de Nudos, Port Blanc, Pesquero and Chilis as well as Turquesa Catering

Saturday the 16th of April 2016, Palma.- Gastronomy will once again have an important role to play at the 33rd edition of the Palma Boat Show and the 4th Palma SuperYacht Show which will be held from the 28th of April to the 2nd of May at Palma's Moll Vell. First rate restaurants will offer visitors their finest cuisine during the five days the fair runs, all combined with the exclusive atmosphere which is assured year after year. In fact, gastronomy is so significant at the Boat Show that not even the Michelin starred Chef Marc Fosh wants to miss out.

For the third year running, this Chef, who is British by origin but has lived on Mallorca for many years, will add extraordinary flavour to the fair, specifically to the super yacht area organised by Balearic Yacht Brokers Association (BYBA).

For this edition, Fosh has given Tapas the starring role, as opposed to the menus offered in previous years. “We are going to work in a much easier and more comfortable way for participants, and this will allow us to reach many more people and make everything a bit more fun,” explained the Chef.

The interaction between a gourmet Chef and the fair visitors will doubtless be one of the yachting fair's most special moments. “We aim to add our own quality touch to the gastronomy on offer,” said Marc Fosh.

There are of course many more culinary options. Restaurants located in the Moll Vell itself such as Port Blanc, at the foot of Palma's cathedral which offers an international culinary combination or Chilis Restaurant, with its seafront terrace and fun cuisine inspired by all corners of the globe and featuring varied dishes created with a spectacular and wide-ranging array of produce.

Perhaps the most traditional of the participating establishments is the Cafe Restaurant Pequero; it boasts over 50 year's worth of history and serves Mediterranean food and drink, rice dishes, fish and seafood, grilled meats and market fare. It will also be offering a special menu for the duration of the yachting fair. Gastronomy at the Boat Show is nothing if not varied, and another example of this is the mixture of Mediterranean and Japanese cuisine which visitors can enjoy at Mar de Nudos, another one of the restaurants which will be present at the fair.

And to complete the culinary offering, Turquesa Catering will fill a marquee with the flavours of Mallorcan cuisine, with classic pastries such as empanadas and cocarois, as well as a fusion of Asian and Mediterranean cuisine, and some very varied Tapas.

Highest demand ever for Palma Boat Show.
Palma By Majorca Daily Bulletin reporter          14 April 2016

Evidence of the economic importance of the Balearic nautical industry is demonstrated by the fact that this year's Palma Boat Show will have more than 70 businesses taking part and that demand for participating in the thirty-third show is the highest that it has ever been: indeed, the show was booked out by March.

Organised by the ministry of employment, trade and industry with private sector cooperation, the show will be larger than last year, with some 500 metres more and up to 5,500 square metres that will house an exhibition of 600 boats - 30% more than in 2015. The number of berths has also been increased, so more than 170 boats will be present. Among them will be some of the largest yachts in the world, such as "Eleonora" and "Native" at some 50 metres in length. In total there will be more than 3,500 national and international brands from some 20 countries.

The show's director, Chema Sans, says that this year's show has great prospects for business, noting that last year some 400 million euros of turnover were generated by the industry and around 2,500 people were employed. Because of the good forecasts, the Majorca Chamber of Commerce has organised a gathering to promote business meetings.

The minister, Iago Negueruela, did not venture to give exact numbers but pointed out that at the end of last year's show almost 90% of exhibitors took up reservations for this year. This illustrates, therefore, the importance of the fair, while he pointed also to the significant levels of direct business the event creates for tourist services, retail and leisure.

* The boat show takes place from 28 April to 2 May.

The Boat Show committee finalises details for what is expected to be the best Boat Show in its history

Tuesday 12th April 2016, Palma.- The Organising Committee for the 33rd edition of the Palma Boat Show is currently finalising the details of what is expected to be, as far as numbers are concerned, the best boat show in its history.

The committee is presided over by the Minister for Employment, Commerce and Industry, Iago Negueruela, and held their last organisational meeting this Monday, before the start of one of the most exciting events in the industry.

During said meeting, which was attended by all the associations represented in the Boat Show and Palma SuperYacht Show’s Organising Committee, various subjects were discussed and they also went over the numbers which will be the highlight of this year's edition.

They are numbers which hint at some very positive results. In this sense it is worth remembering that this year's boat show will feature 220 exhibitors on land and 170 boats on the water. Exhibitors includes some of the largest and most luxurious mega yachts in the world. In total over 3,500 brands from the sector will be present at the Palma Boat Show.

In addition, it is worth noting that this year 95% of the companies present at the fair are directly related to recreational yachting. This situation is, they explained, thanks to the commercialisation of the event carried out during the months before the Boat Show, amongst other things. “We are very pleased with the results and with the promotional efforts which have been carried out at different fairs and international yachting events, such as in Barcelona, Amsterdam and Dusseldorf.”

Amongst the subjects discussed at the Boat Show Committee's last meeting was the date of the prize giving ceremony for the Marcial Sánchez Barcáiztegui award, the fourth edition of which will be awarded this year and which will be presented on the 2nd of May at 12:30 in the exhibition area. The winner of this award is as yet unknown. In fact, the associations represented in the boat show committee will propose different candidates during this coming week and the winner will be announced next week once the judges have come to a decision.

Another one of the subjects decided on during the last meeting before the fair is the official schedule of events which will take place from the 28th of April to the 2nd of May. One of the highlights is the Boat Show Palma 2016 Brokerage Event, a free international business event, organised by Mallorca's Chamber of Commerce and part of the Enterprise Europe Network, a network of business contacts which promotes meetings between companies and professionals dedicated to the maritime sector.

PRESS RELEASE BY  www.boatshowpalma.com

The most technical and specialised edition of the Palma Boat Show is about to begin

The Palma Boat Show prepares for an edition featuring huge business potential

The organisers have had to extend the exhibition space once again, both on land and on the water, to make space for the large numbers wanting to participate

So far, the Palma SuperYacht Show will bring together 70 vessels of between 25 and 60 metres long, making this year's edition once again one of the best super yacht exhibitions in the world

The 33rd edition of the Palma Boat Show and the 4th Palma SuperYacht Show, organised by the Institut d’Innovació Empresarial, part of the Balearic Government's Conselleria de Comerç, Treball I Indústria, will be held from the 28th of April to the 2nd of May 2016

Tuesday 5th of April 2016, Palma.- The 33rd edition of the Palma Boat Show and the 4th edition of the Palma Super Yacht Show will take place from the 28th of April to the 2nd of May. Over recent years the fair has become one of the most important and prestigious events in the international nautical industry.

This year's edition, organised by the Institut d’Innovació Empresarial, part of the Balearic Government's department for Trade, Employment and Industry, is set to be one of the fairs with the most business potential as well as the most specialised and technical of all the fairs held so far - 99% of the businesses present are directly related to the recreational sector of the nautical industry. These figures also “reflect the fact that more and more brands within the sector are using the event to present their products and news.” One example of this is the worldwide presentation of the new Sealine F530, a 16 metre yacht considered the largest of Sealine's range of models.

The Boat Show director, Chema Sans, claims that “this year's Boat Show features a great deal of business potential.” In this regard it is worth pointing out that this is a sector which grows more every year. Last year it generated around 400 million Euros and provided jobs for around 2,500 people.

The Boat Show director explains that “we have had to extend, as far as possible, both our land and sea-based exhibition areas, in order to fit in all the stands and vessels which will feature at the fair this year.”

The 2016 edition, which will take place from the 28th of April to the 2nd of May at the Moll Vell in the Port of Palma, has been extended by around 500 metres on land, meaning that the fair now extends across 5,500 metres squared and features 600 boats (30% more than in 2015) and over 220 exhibitors. The number of moorings has also been increased in comparison to last year, and around 170 yachts have so far confirmed their presence. These include the largest sailing yachts in the world, the Eleonora and the 50 metre long Nativa.

In total, over 3.500 national and international nautical brands, from 20 different countries, will be in Palma for the fair's 5 day duration.

SuperYacht Show, the world's leading luxury yacht fair

For the fourth year running, and coinciding with the Palma Boat Show, the 4th edition of the Palma Super Yacht Show, the leading luxury yacht show, will be held on the same dates. Organised by the BYBA, the Balears Yacht Brokers Association, the show is dedicated to brokers and the presentation of charter yachts.

As explained by the director of the Palma Boat Show, Chema Sans, the fair is “now a completely established event and is considered to be one of the most significant and most prestigious luxury nautical fairs in the world.” “The number of shipyards using the Palma Boat Show to launch their products and their new models continues to grow.”

For this edition, as was also the case last year, the organisers have increased the number of yachts taking part and it is currently, with less than a month to go for this great nautical event, completely booked out.

This, says Chema Sans, shows that “the Palma Boat Show has a marked tendency to attract medium to large boats” which means that during the 5 days the fair is held, the Boat Show will bring together over 170 boats which measure from 15 to 60 metres long.
