The inaugural "Mallorca Superyacht Days" at Port Adriano appears to have been very well received by brokers, owners, potential clients and the general public. The event coincided with the official opening of the new Philippe Starck designed commercial centre and a number of opening events. 43 superyachts participated - ranging from 22 mts to 60 mts - many descending on Port Adriano from other marinas in Mallorca but some coming from further afield. Major Mallorca based yacht brokers have collaborated in "Superyacht Days" in the past to present potential clients with an efficient means of viewing multiple yachts but this was hampered by the yachts being spread over a number of marinas. Last November / December Arne Ploch of Camper and Nicolson and Marc Händle of Ocean Independence broached the idea of holding "Mallorca Superyacht Days" at the newly extended Port Adriano. Port Adriano management and four other brokerages were quickly brought on board. Port Adriano has provided a perfect venue for bringing together a substantial number of large yachts and has provided a wealth of quality restaurants, bars, yachting agencies and boutiques for the use of visitors.

The brokers to whom I have spoken are keen for "Mallorca Superyacht Days" at Port Adriano to become an annual event.

1. What are your thoughts on the viability of Port Adriano as a destination and home base for Burgess charters and owners? What response are you getting so far from owners regarding the port and facilities?

I truly believe that Port Adriano has enormous potential and will become a destination marina for owners and charterers although we also need to see the restrictive matriculation tax removed to see the Balearics become a truly popular charter destination. The design of the port with the prestigious restaurant and café facilities will be a draw to those visiting yachtsmen that enjoy the high society living associated with superyachting. I also feel that the close proximity of Port Adriano to Mallorca’s delightful and premier cruising destinations will be an additional draw for clients. Feedback from the Captains of the yachts we had on display at the Superyacht Days was extremely positive and the combination of a high level of customer service and yard facilities, I am confident will make Port Adriano a popular choice for clients and captains alike.

1. How did the charter show go? Was it a successful investment for Burgess? Do you see Mallorca Superyacht Days continuing next year? How did it compare with the Palma Boat Show?

We were very pleased with the response to the Superyacht Days, we saw a good number of clients for purchase and charter. There was an excellent range of yachts on display and by far the best boat show that Mallorca has seen and I would be extremely enthusiastic to see this event develop over the coming years.

Initial feedback from OCEAN Independence.

Brokers reported that the event was well received by potential clients and boat owners with a substantial number of valuable boat visits. Port Adriano represented a perfect venue with quality facilities for visitors - enhanced by a number of business opening events. Enthusiasm for an annual event shared by Port Adriano and local business operators. Perhaps subject to space availability. Some teething problems with shuttle services around Adriano and VIP transport. More organised events would be welcome.
