"RIVA LANDS IN PALMA DE MALLORCA
Press Release dated Tuesday, 28 April 2009.

They were really four intense months the first ones of this 2009 for Riva, that began its international tour with the Dusseldorf boat show and continued with Miami, Mumbai, Dubai, Oslo and Shanghai, among others. From April 25th to May 3rd it will be Palma de Mallorca’s turn, where Riva will display three models of its current range thanks to its exclusive dealer Ibiza Yacht Service: Rivale, SportRiva 56’ and 63’ Vertigo. The three ensigns represent the different type of yachts proposed by the shipyard to its customers: pure open boats, like the Rivale, which remind to the traditional wooden Rivas famous in the ‘50s; open boats with hard top, like the 63’ Vertigo, which offer the chance to repair from the weather on the upper deck; and flybridge yachts, like the SportRiva 56’, that thanks to a completely closed and air-conditioned upper salon reveal themselves as particularly appropriate for the hottest climates. The Spanish territory, where is now possible to admire all the model of the current Riva range, represents since ever one of the most important for the shipyard, that finds in the Mediterranean its main destination market. "

The RIVA Story.

Riva’s history dates back to 1842, when Pietro Riva began building boats at Sarnico, a small northern Italian town on the shores of Lago d’Iseo.

By the 1930s, by which time the business was managed by Pietro’s grandson, Serafino, the company was a leading manufacturer of small racing boats, many of which he raced himself.  At the same time, it began building pleasure boats.

In the 1950s Serafino’s son Carlo transformed the business.  After a considerable struggle with his father to realise his ambitions, he created wooden boats of such exceptional style and elegance that they surpassed anything his competitors produced.  In due course the Riva brand became a worldwide legend courted by screen stars, royalty and businessmen alike.  Famous owners included Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren, Peter Sellers and many more besides.

More about the Riva story can be found in the article which can be downloaded from this page.  A succession of owners have owned the company since Carlo Riva sold it in the early 1970s, and today the firm is owned by the Ferretti Group.
